120V High Side Low Side MOSFET Driver (UCC27200) Slide 3

Here are oscilloscope images of both the rise and fall times of the output of the UCC27200 compared to other drivers available today. The top two graphs compare the slopes of the three curves of two devices. The plot on the left has steeper slopes indicating faster switching times -- 7.25ns compared to 9.26ns -- an advantage of over 20%. Power dissipation from switching losses is directly proportional to this, therefore a better than 20% improvement in power dissipation is expected from MOSFET turn on. The lower set of curves shows the output during turn-off. Similar to the top plots, the slopes of the curves of the UCC27200 are descending steeper with a 25% advantage, again directly proportional to the power dissipation of the turn-off switching losses. The combination of both faster fall and rise times can be realized with the reduction of heat-sink material. It saves money to improve gate drive.
