As explained previously, the challenge in current mode control is the management of the decay timing. Hence, the L6474 has registers to configure this timing. In voltage mode control, as a fixed frequency PWM is applied, the decay is automatic. But as the current depends on the voltage that is applied, the BEMF must be compensated. As the BEMF is a voltage created by the spin of the motor, the total voltage seen by the motor is the voltage applied minus BEMF. The BEMF must be compensated to remove its effects, the device has registers provided to program this compensation.
