Shown on this slide are the key differences between the voltage mode and current mode. The standard method is the current mode. The EasySPIN uses this mode and brings great improvements to this method. At this time ST is the only one making the voltage mode control. In current mode, a current is applied to the coil creating a feedback loop which monitors the current. This is a closed loop: when the current is too low, it is increased; when the current is too high, it is decreased with a decay. In the voltage mode, it is completely different because it is an open loop and the current is not monitored. The system applies a voltage to a motor and to the phase. Knowing the specifications of the system (BEMF, resistance and inductance of the motor) the current going through the coils is known. As the torque depends on the current, the idea to control the system with voltage instead of the current can look unusual, but actually brings advantages.
