To address many of the issues associated with the thermal and EMI management issues in set-top boxes, T-Global has developed FAM (flexible absorbent material). This solution presents a low cost of ownership approach for addressing both the absorbing and thermal needs of set-top box design. FAM allows the designer to meet many of the stringent footprint and design criteria required for commercial success of set-top boxes. FAM is an elastomer-based absorber material designed to offer a user-friendly approach to the reduction of unwanted electromagnetic radiation from electronic equipment, as well as minimize cavity-to-cavity cross coupling and microwave cavity resonances. FAM is comprised of a silicone elastomer matrix which is substantially transparent to electromagnetic energy, and a filler material which provides RF absorption performance over a broadband frequency range from 10 MHz to 25 GHz.
