Customers are being challenged to develop lower power systems. Renesas is addressing this need by designing low-power HCSL output alternatives to the traditional HCSL output devices. The low-power HCSL outputs use a push-pull output type that can save up to 85% versus the traditional HCSL outputs at 3.3V. With a VDDIO of 1.05V, savings can be even greater. In addition to power savings, using push-pull output types, only two termination resistors are needed instead of the traditional four on each output. This means a 50% savings of termination resistors per output. On a 19-output buffer, the resistor count will be reduced from seventy-six to thirty-eight, saving BOM cost as well as board space.
