The supplier’s job is to ask questions in order to understand exactly what the customer’s needs are. This is the most critical step in the custom product development process. Avoid a supplier that pushes towards a particular product solution already in their portfolio. A quality supplier is going to do the following: learn about the customer’s product, help identify a solution, and show the customer how to get there. This step is about sharing knowledge.
