Microchip SAM9G46/M11 supports the important cryptographic algorithm Message Authentication Code, also called MAC, due to our AES and SHA implementations. The main cryptographic objectives are data confidentiality, data integrity and authentication. AES support addresses data confidentiality. Data integrity and authentication, are addressed by the MAC algorithm. In cryptography, a MAC is a short piece of information used to authenticate a message. It can be compared to a cryptographic checksum on data designed to detect both accidental errors and intentional modifications of the data. However, MAC has a stronger assurance of data integrity and authentication.
