The traditional residential natural gas flow meter is a mechanical diaphragm gas flow meter. Because the diaphragm gas flow meter operates by means of the diaphragm volume expansion and deflation, the slide valve is likely to deteriorate, resulting in gas leakage. The greater the gas leakage, the higher the measurement error of the diaphragm volumetric flow meter. The ultrasonic gas flow meter measures gas flow through non-contact means based on the ToF (time of flight), which is the ultrasound traveling time difference between downstream and upstream in gas media. The advantage of this technology is that it does not require contact with fluid, has no mechanical reciprocating action, and can work with many different types of gases.
