MSP430AFE2xx Series Precise Energy Measurement and Monitoring Applications Slide 3

The MSP430AFE provides maximum design flexibility offering 16-bit RISC architecture featuring an MSP430 core with up to 16 kB programmable on-chip flash and 512 bytes of RAM. It supports a flexible clock system with a maximum CPU clock of 12 MHz and an on-chip VLO. The MSP430AFE has less than 0.1% error in energy accuracy while maintaining a wide dynamic range of 2400:1 enabled by three independent 24-bit Sigma-delta (SD24) converters for precise measurements. There are three independent converters for current, voltage and tamper detection. Furthermore, these SD24 converters support differential inputs, so outputs from the current sensor can be fed without the need for level shifting. Due to simultaneous sampling feature of the SD24, there is no inherent delay between the current and voltage samples thus removing the need for software compensation, an anomaly of sequential sampling.
